RESTITUTION NOTES

I know that we have had several problems with too few and too many cases on Tuesdays. Unfortunately, since these cases were set long ago, we will continue to experience lows and highs until the first of the year. Hopefully by then we will be back to an average number of cases.

2002 DATES TO REMEMBER

OCTOBER 8, 2002 - JUVENILE RESTITUTION

OCTOBER 10, 2002  THURSDAY Last roundtable with Judge Martinez before he transfers out of county civil at the end of the year. Sign up sheet in the waiting room (the October 16th date was canceled).

NOVEMBER 1, 2002 - FRIDAY - MEDIATION DAY WE NEED HELP!

Picnic in the Jury Room. Set the day aside for fun and games. We start at 8:30 and we will have booths, games and clowns. At noon we will have lunch. We still need people to run various booths, cakes for the cake walk, people who can paint clown faces, people who can tie balloon animals and some cheap prizes for the various contests. Check with your friends and relatives for face painters, balloon tiers, people who might be able to create booths, cooks who can make cakes, anyone who has a popcorn making machine, hot dog machine or a cotton candy machine, or knows where to get one. Any kind of help would be appreciated. Also sign up for what finger food you would like to bring to the luncheon. (Finger foods are any entree, veggie, fruit, meat, dessert etc. that you do not need a fork or spoon to eat it.

DECEMBER 5, 2002 - THURSDAY CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

We are trying something new again for our luncheon. We will be having a training here at the courthouse in the morning, as we did for the 10th anniversary, and then the lunch downtown. Hope everyone can attend.

RSVP

Anyone who is 55 and older and wants to admit to it, is welcome to join RSVP (the Retired Senior Volunteer Program). It is free to join and there are perks and benefits to being a member. See Bob or Kathy if you are not a member and want to join. Also, for those of you who are members, please have your time sheets into Bob by the end of each and every month. Turn them in on the last day you are mediating.

MACF

Ealnor has been appointed the nominating chairman for the Mediator’s Association. She is accepting any nominations for officers as well as new members. The meeting on September 27th was held in Brevard County and included Domestic Violence discussions.

FYI

1. Please remember that governmental agencies do not need to have full settlement authority when they come to mediation. They can go back to give proposals to whatever department they come from. If there are any questions, please come see me.

2. Please let Bob, Genie, Dave or whomever is up front know when you are through with your last case. You can call up there using the phone in the wait room (dial 62004) or you can call from your room when you need someone to do a trial rather than leave the people.

3. Small Claims Cases (those beginning with S) only have one side of the story in them. It really is better if you don’t read those files before you begin the case. It may give you too much of the plaintiff’s view and then it may be hard to remain impartial.
