CONGRATULATIONS TO CHUCK H. (my boss) WHO IS GETTING MARRIED OCTOBER 21

(we also wish Carol good luck!)

THANKS TO BILL D. for contributing our new coffee maker.

THANKS TO BEN for his hard work on developing our new pamphlets. We now have Spanish Pamphlets to hand out. He spent a lot of time translating for us.

THANKS TO CONNIE from the Mediator’s Association of Central Florida for his help during this year’s DRC conference. Connie not only manned the MACF table, he provided and donated our beautiful sign. Since our beginning, Connie has recruited most of our members. MACF is fortunate to have such a committed and outstanding member.

GET WELL HARRY who was hit by a car while out walking. He is recovering but will be absent for a few weeks.

GET WELL DAVID D recovering from his operation

THANKS TO CITRUS COUNTY FOR THEIR HOSPITALITY ON SEPTEMBER 26TH. ART H, NORM AND ART F AND I OBSERVED THEIR PROGRAM AND MET WITH THEM AFTERWARDS. THESE EXCURSIONS ARE PART OF OUR TRAVELING/LEARNING MEDIATORS. WE HAVE ALL LEARNED A LOT FROM EACH OTHER.

THANKS TO JUDGE FREEMAN FOR RUNNING OUR SEPTEMBER JUDGE’S ROUND TABLE. WE REALLY APPRECIATED HER PARTICIPATION AND ENJOYED HER DISCUSSION.

More Questions and notes from the July ROUNDTABLE (thanks to Ealnor H)

1. Mediators can get CME’s for attending the roundtables.

2. If a case is not settled at mediation and goes to trial, there is normally no additional filing fee. Additional costs MAY include attorney fees, subpoenas, witness fees, loss of work time and of course - parking.

3. On the Trial Agreement, it is still preferable if the mediator fills everything in but the issues and matters agreed to.

4. “With prejudice” means parties can’t come back on the same case. Dismissed “without prejudice” means a party could reopen the case.

5. All small claims cases (up to $5000) are sent to mediation if both parties appear and they cannot work things out themselves. For cases over $5000 they are usually sent to mediation if there is no default, but are reviewed by the judges first.2001 DATES TO REMEMBER

NOVEMBER 2, FRIDAY - MEDIATION DAY - IN THE JURY ROOM

MEDIATION DAY CELEBRATIONS ARE SCHEDULED TO INTRODUCE MEDIATORS.

ALL GROUPS OF MEDIATORS HAVE BEEN INVITED TO PARTICIPATE - COUNTY CIVIL MEDIATORS, OSCEOLA MEDIATORS, SEMINOLE MEDIATORS, FAMILY MEDIATORS, BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU MEDIATORS, EEOC MEDIATORS, PRIVATE MEDIATORS, LAW SCHOOL MEDIATORS AND BAR ASSOCIATION MEDIATORS. THE GOVERNOR DECLARED THIS DAY FOR ALL MEDIATORS SO WE HOPE EVERYONE WILL BE HERE.

PLEASE SIGN UP SOON. WE HOPE WE WILL HAVE 100% PARTICIPATE IN SOME WAY.

DON’T FORGET TO SIGN UP TO BRING A DISH FOR OUR LUNCHEON -EVEN IF YOU DON’T ENTER THE COOKING CONTEST. WE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING CONTESTS:

WHATS MY LINE A mediator with an unusual past occupation will join two other mediators. Judges                              will question all three and only the mediator with the unusual occupation must tell the truth. The judges will              have to guess which mediator is the real one.

COURT-COSTUME CONTEST Mediators may bring and don costumes RELATING to court but don’t dress as a judge - that would be too easy. You can relate in any far out way you want but it must have some remote connection to the court system. Don’t wear your costume to the courthouse, just bring it and dress here when the contest starts.

COOKING CONTEST Judges will taste from various specialty cooking entries. Everyone will be bringing a dish, but only those who want to enter the contest will be judged.

SUPER MEDIATOR CONTEST- We can’t let Ealnor stay Super Mediator forever so we need at least 5 challengers for a new set of questions. The contest will be a scaled down version of last year’s contest.

TALENT SHOW - Two minute examples of your talents or lack thereof. Prizes for the best, the worst, the funniest and the most unusual. Dancing, comedy, skits, and singing - anything you can do.

CAKE WALK - We hope to have people contribute cakes for our Cake Walk.

AND FAB FOLLIES - chorus line WILL PERFORM SO DON’T MISS IT! See the attached flier for times.

Remember all time is volunteered since the mediators are contributing all food and prizes, there is no cost to the county.

DECEMBER 11, 2001 TRAINING LUNCHEON mark your calendars.
